Marine Conservation Projects and Education:

Reef Conservation International empowers you to take an active role in protecting our oceans through marine conservation projects and environmental education. Dive into the world of invasive lionfish and participate in spearfishing dives to remove this destructive species. Explore the beauty of coral reefs, tropical fish, sharks, manatees, dolphins, and more during our marine conservation identification dives. Acquire insights into critical concerns such as ocean acidification and climate change, as well as practical solutions. Come on board with us and actively contribute to making a difference.

Our program welcomes a wide range of participants, from singles to families, students to retirees. All share a deep passion for diving and ocean conservation, fostering excellent group dynamics. Whether you're an experienced diver or looking to start your diving journey, everyone contributes regardless of background or experience. We provide straightforward research methodologies, and our training sessions prepare you for lionfish spearing and other conservation dives.

Choose Your Level of Involvement:

Volunteers have the flexibility to determine their level of involvement. You can opt for more conservation diving and learning or mix it with relaxation and island activities. All dives are voluntary, allowing you to relax in our hammocks, fish from the island, try stand-up paddleboarding, or immerse yourself in conservation volunteering.

Scuba Certification and Diving with ReefCI:

Our volunteer trips cater to both non-experienced and experienced divers. If you're not certified, you can learn to dive on our island. Experienced divers can further their certification status in our serene Caribbean Sea setting, replacing conventional classrooms with the shade of palm trees. We offer a variety of PADI certification courses with durations based on your progress and comprehension.

PADI Certification Courses Offered on the Island:

  • Open Water Certification – $225 USD (3 days)*
  • Advanced Open Water Certification – $275 USD (3 days)*
  • Rescue Diver Certification – $325 USD (1 week)*
  • Divemaster Certification – $750 USD (4-week minimum stay)*

  • PADI Specialties with a Marine Conservation Focus
    • Coral Reef Conservation – $175 USD (1 day)
    • Fish Identification – $175 USD (2 days)
    • Invasive Lionfish – $175 USD (2 days)
    • Shark Conservation – $175 USD (2 days)
    • Underwater Naturalist – $175 USD (2 days)
  • PADI Specialties with a Diving Skills Focus
    • Deep Diver – $175 USD (3 days)*
    • Emergency First Response – $175 USD (1 day)*
    • Underwater Navigator – $175 USD (3 days)*
    • Underwater Photographer – $250 USD (2 days)*

*Note: PADI Open Water, Advanced, Rescue, Divemaster, Deep Diver, Emergency First Response, Underwater Navigator, and Underwater Photographer courses require PADI eLearning prior to arrival. Other courses do not require prior eLearning. Full open water certification is necessary before taking PADI specialty courses.

Explore Beyond Diving:

When you're not diving, our island offers a variety of activities, including stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, snorkeling, fishing, conservation projects like dissections and data collection, sports like volleyball and badminton, and plenty of relaxation time in our hammocks. Enhance your dive course training with optional PADI courses to maximize your experience.

How much will I be volunteering?

Our volunteers can choose how much they wish to get involved.  Some people want to do as much conservation diving and learning as possible, while others wish to combine the conservation dives with a bit of relaxation and island time.  All dives are voluntary so you can choose to relax in our hammocks with a good book, fish from the island, or do a bit of sea kayaking/stand up paddle boarding or immerse yourself in conservation volunteering.  The choice is yours!
