Please note that the above-shown program fees are estimated. Instituto Hemingway will let you know about the final price during your application process.

Deposit (15%)

The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.

Final Payment (85%)

Your final payment will be agreed with Instituto Hemingway during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.

You will have the opportunity to enjoy various activities during your free time. Here are some suggestions:

During the week, we organize free leisure and cultural activities, such as sports, wine tourism, wine tastings, excursions, visits to tapas bars or to museums. All are free for our volunteers.
On the weekends, students can also enjoy their hobbies, such as hiking, surfing or winery tours. The area is perfect to enjoy outdoor activities.
Explore the Guggenheim Museum: Visit this iconic museum known for its contemporary art exhibits and striking architecture.
Wander through Casco Viejo: Take a stroll through the charming old town, with its narrow streets, historic buildings, and lively atmosphere.
Indulge in pintxos: Experience the local culinary tradition of pintxos, Basque-style tapas, by hopping from one bar to another and trying different delicious bites.
Visit the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum: Immerse yourself in the world of art by exploring the impressive collection of Spanish and international artworks.
Take a walk along the Nervion River: Enjoy the scenic beauty and tranquility of the river as you walk along its banks, admiring the architecture and bridges.
Explore San Juan de Gaztelugatxe: Take a day trip to this stunning coastal spot with its iconic hermitage perched on a rocky island, offering breathtaking views.
Attend local festivals: Experience the vibrant cultural celebrations and festivities that take place throughout the year, such as Aste Nagusia or Semana Grande.
Enjoy outdoor activities: Take advantage of the surrounding natural beauty by going hiking in nearby mountains, cycling along the trails, or even trying water sports like surfing.
Relax at the beaches: Bilbao is located close to beautiful beaches, such as Playa de la Concha, where you can sunbathe, swim, or simply unwind.

Our partner organisations only ever charge you for basic utilities and resources like food, transportation, accommodation, or crucial training sessions that may require hiring professionals. And we do not charge you anything at all!

Important Things to Note

All programs attract a Registration Deposit Fee of 15% of the program cost in addition to the main program fee. This fee is refundable in the event of your booking cancellation by our partner organisation.
A 5% international banking fee is added at point of payment.
Additional things to budget for include: Visa, flights, travel insurance (mandatory), vaccinations, criminal background check, public transport to and from your placement each day and for returning to the airport when your program finishes.
Recommended spending money: Volunteers in Spain generally find US$100 - US$150 to be sufficient for basic weekly expenses.
