Tethys Research Institute is a non-profit organisation dedicated to marine conservation with 37 years of experience focusing on large marine creatures. Their dedication to conserving the maritime environment is demonstrated by rigorous scientific study, active conservation activities, and public education. Their recent research publications delve into cetaceans in the Mediterranean Sea, emphasizing encounter rates, dominant species, diversity hotspots, and red-list status of whales, dolphins, and porpoises worldwide.

Tethys is actively engaged in the MARINE_ECOMED project, supported by the Erasmus+ EU Program, aiming to enhance research and education in sustainable marine management within the unique Mediterranean natural and socio-economic context. The project involves creating educational materials, including a MOOC and a handbook on marine education and communication. Tethys also invites individuals to be part of their fieldwork team, engaging in responsible tourism and citizen science projects to support marine conservation efforts. Donations and contributions are welcomed to aid in the protection of Mediterranean dolphins, whales, and their habitats, combating various threats they face. Tethys' extensive dataset of cetacean sightings is a valuable resource in contributing to global marine mammal research through platforms like OBIS SEAMAP. By collaboratively promoting responsible tourism, citizen science, and advocacy, Tethys continues to be a beacon of hope in the pursuit of marine conservation.
