A positive mindset and a genuine love for fostering early education and development are essential qualities for those who would love to participate in this program.

The first steps in education take place in a playful way in the Kindergarten. Volunteer on a daily basis with children between 3 and 5 years. Assist the teacher in the daily activities, and help the kids learning the alphabet. Drawing, painting, singing songs and playing games will be activities in which you participate.

The Kindergarten project takes place in the morning, from Monday to Friday. In a playful way, the first steps in education are made. The volunteer can be of great help to the teacher and the children. Handing out materials and help starting and organizing activities inside the classroom. Give personal attention to kids who need a bit of extra help, or a more challenging activity. During the breaks, you can play fun and active games at the playground

Getting used to sitting in classroom, listen to the teacher and learning how to share with other children are essential aspects to learn. Also, having fun, playing games and receiving attention and love are very important. The presence and assistance of a volunteer will be of great value to these different aspects.

Requirements for volunteering in the Kindergarten

Patience, a strong passion for young children and friendly and warm personality are vital for the Kindergarten project. You don’t need professional experience to volunteer in the Kindergarten. Creativity, empathy and a positive mindset are will all come in handy. As the young children will attach to you quickly, we prefer the volunteers to stay for 2 months, or longer.

Possible impact of a volunteer in the Kindergarten

The Kindergarten forms the gateway to further education. With assistance of a volunteer, the following activities can be better guided and intensified:

• Learning the alphabet, and first steps in reading and writing

• The kindergarten is a great place for learning how to share

• Playing games and develop fine motor skills

• Detect possible delays, and give personal attention to children

Your accommodation during your stay in Peru is in our volunteer house. During your Spanish language course and your volunteer work, you will live in our volunteer house in Cusco. It is also possible to live with a local host family.

Our volunteer house is a great place to relax and share your free time with the other volunteers. Cook some food together, watch a movie or play a game and listen to some music. After a day of studying, or working on your project, you can rest and relax in the volunteer house.

Cusco

You will share the house with other volunteers. It has a roof terrace with a great view over Cusco. There is WiFi internet, a washing machine, a good kitchen, and a spacious living room. A warm shower and cable TV and of course a nice atmosphere with the other volunteers is what awaits you in our volunteer accommodation. The historical center of Cusco is 15 minutes away by public transport. Till 9 pm there is frequent public transport. In the evenings, you can make use of the local taxis. A ride to the city center costs under 2 euros.

You can also live with a Peruvian host family. You will practice your Spanish every day and get a good insight into the Peruvian culture and the way they live their daily lives. When you will stay with a Peruvian family, there are generally two meals per day included. Breakfast, and the most important meal of the day, “el almuerzo” (lunch). Peru Volunteer is in contact with some local families. Contact us always well in advance, so we can check which family is available to receive volunteers.

Deposit (15%)

The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.

Final Payment (85%)

Your final payment will be agreed with Peru Volunteer during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.

Important Things to Note

All programs attract a Registration Deposit Fee of 15% of the program cost in addition to the main program fee. This fee is refundable in the event of your booking cancellation by our partner organisation.
A 5% international banking fee is added at point of payment.
Additional things to budget for include: Visa, flights, travel insurance (mandatory), vaccinations, criminal background check, public transport to and from your placement each day and for returning to the airport when your program finishes.
Recommended spending money: Volunteers in Cusco generally find US$100 - US$150 to be sufficient for basic weekly expenses.
