Sports Development & Coaching

• Physical Education Teacher – You will plan a schedule with the teaching staff to fit within their current curriculum so that you may take classes outside for physical education courses, on the school field. Since supplies are often scarce, thinking outside the box is essential. Depending on your qualifications and expertise, classroom theory lessons may also be offered to the students. 
• After-School Clubs – Depending on your level of independence, you might spend the day in a teaching placement and then manage a sports club for local kids for a few hours in the late afternoon or evening. Previous clubs setup have been linked to a volunteer’s teaching placement who they have invited along after hours as well as organising a different sport/game each day for the children in the town of the volunteer accommodation. 
• Football Academy – As part of this placement, you will discuss your qualifications with the team manager and build a strategy for how you can best contribute to the growth of the team while also advancing your professional career. Since the majority of your work will be done on the weekends and in the evenings, this placement is appropriate for mid-long-term volunteers. To keep children active during school hours, previous volunteers have frequently preferred to tie this placement in with our teaching placement.

Who will I be working with?

If the number permits, we try to put volunteers in groups at a certain project or school. When placed in the schools, you will work closely with a teacher and, if there are any problems, report to the headteacher. You will interact with our on-site coach in person when you visit the academy. A member of our team will also devote a portion of their day to the project in order to offer support in any form and if necessary. 

Majority of volunteers develop close relationships with the teachers and are treated like a regular employee. Early on, as a way of saying thank you, it is not unusual to be invited to dinner at their homes.

What do we expect from a volunteer?

All we ask is that you join us in having the passion and drive to change the world one small step at a time. You will be able to contribute much more to this initiative if you are able to get involved especially on the community cleanup days, which can be tiring in the heat and humidity. The best qualities of a volunteer are zeal, empathy, and the capacity to adapt to other cultures. By being open to new experiences and viewpoints while also bringing your own to the table, you will make the most of your trip. 

We expect volunteers to visit their placements Monday through Friday; however, we can make an exception for long weekends or other travel-related reasons.

What can you expect from us?

We will be available to help you with your placement and trip as a whole at any time of day. If you have any questions or need any assistance, from setting up and modifying your schedule to switching your placement, there will always be someone to speak to you. To help you quickly feel at home, our team members who live in the volunteer house will also provide advise on travel arrangements and the surrounding area.

What should I bring?

Regarding your placement we advise bringing any sports or coaching equipment you can as these items are not available in our local area and only cheap children's footballs and used football boots can be found at the markets.

What Happens During School Holidays?

During school holidays if a volunteers placement falls within these dates then we can arrange either a holiday school depending on the number of volunteers or we can run sports clubs and competitions for the local children at one of the fields in town. 
The school holidays usually fall three times a year; few weeks around easter, few weeks around August and a few weeks during December.

• 10:30am - 11:00am - Morning Break
• 12:30pm - 01:00pm - Lunch Break
• 03:00pm - School closes
• 03:30pm - Return to volunteer house
• 03:00pm onwards - Free time / Potential after school clubs / Visiting football academy

  After school volunteers are free to go shopping in the local markets, return to the volunteer house or visit the local swimming pools.
