Are you passionate about environmental conservation and looking for a meaningful way to contribute? Join our volunteer program in Ghana and become a Plastic Recycling and community Clean-up Activist. Here's why this placement is the perfect opportunity for you:

Why this placement?
In Ghana and throughout West Africa, single-use plastics are a major environmental concern, exacerbated by economic factors and a lack of awareness. By volunteering with us, you can actively participate in addressing this issue. Help coordinate community clean-ups, set up collection points, and contribute to a rural waste management service struggling to keep up with demand. We produce eco-bricks from collected plastics for community and educational projects, such as benches, greenhouses, and buildings. Additionally, we design and implement up-cycled products from waste plastic. Your role includes educating local communities and schools about the harmful effects of plastic waste and the importance of reusing and recycling.

The impact of plastic waste:
Plastic waste not only harms the environment but also affects public health. In many areas, open gutter systems become clogged with plastic debris, creating breeding grounds for disease-carrying mosquitoes. Deforestation and overflowing landfills further damage local ecosystems. Your involvement can make a significant difference in mitigating these issues.

What is included in this placement?

  • Support Staff
  • Accommodation
  • House Utility Bills
  • Pre-Departure Support

We offer this project at cost price to cover your stay and employ local support staff, contributing to employment opportunities. Your accommodation is in a modern-style house in a semi-rural area with picturesque views of local towns and the rain-forest. All house utilities are provided, including access to a kitchen, electricity, and running water – a luxury in the Kahuna area. A member of our local support team will be on hand for any questions or assistance.

How do I get to the placement?
Budget an additional 30-70 Ghana cedis per day for transport costs. Volunteers typically use taxis to commute to project sites within the community. Shared cabs in the city are affordable, and the cost of transportation to most sites ranges from 5 to 40 cedis a day, with an average of around 10 cedis. More remote village sites may require slightly higher transportation costs. We can assist volunteers in organizing group transportation and provide guidance on transportation options.

Participate with us in the battle against plastic waste to help bring about positive change in Ghana. A better sense of community, enhanced public health, and a cleaner environment can all result from your efforts. Join us as volunteers right now!
