UN’s Sustainable Development Goals:
This program is ideal for
Volunteers who are passionate about business development and would love to gain practical experience in foreign economies. Those who are comfortable in dealing with individuals from diverse backgrounds or in strange surroundings about their finances. As your tasks will vary based on various factors, you should be open to helping out in any kind of activity that is prioritised while you’re there.
The Business Administration Program gives young people the chance to travel around South Africa while transferring knowledge and skills to communities in need of development. In addition to learning about the culture firsthand, students get to travel and experience places like the international hub of Cape Town. Interns can provide their services in a professional setting by working in NGOs, human rights organizations, etc.
Qualifications Criteria
Candidates with knowledge, experience, or interest in human rights, with a focus on social and economic rights, are of particular interest to us. All interns would have to prove their dedication to human rights problems, possess written and spoken English proficiency, and have computer literacy. With some flexibility, interns would need to commit to working a minimum of 3 days per week for a minimum of 4 weeks.
If computer work is anticipated, interns would want to bring their laptops and be reachable via phone.
Depending on the applicant's qualifications, experience, and interests, the organization's current needs, and the availability of a supervisor for the work needed, we now use volunteers and interns in five main positions.
1. Advocacy Research and Support
We would need interns who have earned the equivalent of a master's degree or are enrolled in coursework toward one. Please be aware that we do not employ our interns or volunteers for direct advocacy work since we believe that this type of work requires contextual knowledge. Instead, we use them for things like research, analysis, document preparation, meeting and event planning, etc.
2. Media and Materials Development
Many undergraduates would be qualified for some areas of this task, while graduates would be extremely welcome. Strong computer skills, including at the very least a high degree of fluency in MS Office and internet-based research, as well as expertise in communications, public relations, photography, websites, social media, and/or public media, are requirements for volunteers or interns.
3. Legal Research and Support
We would need interns with a legal degree or who are in their final year of law school. They would also need to be great writers, presenters, and researchers.
4. Community Outreach
We are looking for interns who have a strong commitment to human rights, a working understanding of the law, expertise in adult education, and/or community development to help with activities and events in local communities. We favor mature applicants because community work is complex. Graduate students could be able to help in support roles.
5. Administrative and Logistics Support
Many undergraduates would be qualified for some areas of this task, while graduates would be extremely welcome. They would need to be ready to participate in data collection and analysis, resource management, material compilation, event planning and organization, stakeholder communication, etc. We are seeking candidates who are highly organized, methodical, and efficient in their work, with a solid grasp of systems and logistics.
6. Fundraising (Administrative Support, Work on Specific Projects and Events)
Although many undergraduates would be qualified for some of these jobs, graduates would be extremely welcome. We would like interns or volunteers to have some experience in a fundraising context, such as an alumni or development office, or event organizing. We are searching for candidates that are particularly efficient, organized, and methodical in their work, can conduct desk research, and have great communication and presentation abilities.
7. Human Resources
Although many undergraduates would be qualified for some of these jobs, graduates would be extremely welcome. Interns or volunteers with experience in human resources processes would be requested. We need people who are particularly efficient, organized, and analytical in their work, and who have a solid understanding of HR processes.
