Our program is committed to safeguarding the well-being of dogs and cats in local shelters throughout Croatia. The country faces a pressing issue of pets being abandoned for various reasons, leading to overcrowded animal shelters. Volunteers like you play a crucial role in dedicating their time and affection to these animals, promoting their health, happiness, and increasing their chances of finding forever homes. Additionally, our shelters actively work to raise awareness about pet abandonment and reduce future abandonment rates.

Your daily tasks as a volunteer will be diverse and rewarding. You may find yourself bathing and grooming dogs, engaging in playtime, walking, and socializing with the animals, or assisting with their measurements and weight checks. These interactions are essential for the animals' well-being and their ability to connect with potential adopters. You'll also have the opportunity to capture the charm of these furry friends by taking photos and recording videos, helping to create individual ID profiles to enhance their chances of adoption.

Furthermore, volunteers can contribute to the improvement of shelter conditions by tending to green spaces and assisting in small construction projects, including building dog runs and fences. Your dedication will make a significant impact on the lives of these animals and the overall mission of promoting animal welfare in Croatia.

Role and responsibility

Assist with bathing, grooming, and brushing dogs and cats
Provide companionship through playing, walking, and socializing with the animals
Help measure and weigh the animals for proper monitoring and care
Take photos and record videos to create ID books for each animal for adoption promotion
Support in maintaining and improving the green spaces in the shelter
Participate in small construction projects like building dog runs and fences
Help with feeding and providing clean water for the animals
Clean and maintain the animal living areas, including cages and enclosures
Assist with administrative tasks, such as record-keeping and data entry

4-9 hours volunteering per day

Volunteer schedule

After the initial orientation, you will join the morning or afternoon shift at your placement and will work for approximately 3 to 5 hours per day. Please note that the starting times and daily workload can vary depending on the schedule of each specific project. A typical daily schedule will look as follows.

07:00 am – 10:00 am | Breakfast at the volunteer’s accommodation

10:00 am – 12:30 pm | (1) Travel to project to join local placement staff and begin work on your volunteer project or (2) Explore the city, relax, attend Croatian language lessons or enroll other activities if you have an afternoon project

12:30 pm – 02:00 pm | Lunch is served at the accommodation. In the morning you can grab a “packed lunch” to have in the city or at your placement.

02:00 pm – 07:30 pm | (1) Travel to project to join local placement staff and begin work on your volunteer project or (2) Explore the city, relax, attend Croatian language lessons or enroll other activities if you have a morning project

08:00 pm – 10:00 pm | Dinner at the accommodation. After dinner you will have the remainder of the evening free to relax and use as you wish.

Your final payment will be agreed with ImpacTrip during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.

Important Things to Note

All programs attract a Registration Deposit Fee of 15% of the program cost in addition to the main program fee. This fee is refundable in the event of your booking cancellation by our partner organisation.
A 5% international banking fee is added at point of payment.
Additional things to budget for include: Visa, flights, travel insurance (mandatory), vaccinations, criminal background check, public transport to and from your placement each day and for returning to the airport when your program finishes.
Recommended spending money: Volunteers in Croatia generally find US$100 - US$150 to be sufficient for basic weekly expenses.
