Experience Life in Rural Croatia
Immerse yourself in the welcoming community of a small town nestled at the base of the Velebit mountain range. Here, you'll have a special chance to become involved with a bear sanctuary and play a role in the welfare of bears who have endured mistreatment or were left orphaned in the wild.
Embrace Local Culture
Our association is dedicated to maintaining and promoting the traditional way of life and culture of Kuterevo. As a volunteer, you'll adopt the lifestyle of the local community, learning about their culture and language. Learning Croatian will be essential for successful integration, and you can take a language course in Split before heading to Kuterevo.
Engage in Meaningful Work
Your daily activities will include maintaining the forest and the surrounding environment, caring for the animals at the sanctuary, and assisting the visitor center. No prior experience with tools is necessary; our experienced team will provide training. Once familiar with the association's mission, you'll guide daily visitors, educating them about the history, heritage, and the importance of bear conservation.
Live Like a Local
Immerse yourself in the culture by staying in a traditional local house with fellow volunteers. Our facilities are simple, including an ecological dry toilet with sawdust compost. You'll also take responsibility for cooking, house cleaning, and daily tasks alongside other volunteers. In addition to the bear sanctuary, explore a workhouse for Shetland ponies, an information point for visitors, a volunteer solitary station, and a mystic place in Kuterevo.
