Our project is located near Manuel Antonio National Park, famous for its breathtaking rainforests and stunning beaches. As a volunteer, you'll work alongside experienced biologists to safeguard the habitats of sloths and sea turtles, both threatened by human activities and environmental changes.

Protecting Sloths and Turtles

The Costa Rican Sloth & Turtle Conservation Project is dedicated to the study and safeguarding of these at-risk species. Sloths and turtles face particular challenges when adapting to new environments, rendering them vulnerable to harm. Your role is to create a secure refuge for these animals, ensuring their survival for generations to come.

Sloth Monitoring and Turtle Care

Volunteers participate in data collection and recovery processes, directly contributing to the protection of these species. With guidance from experienced biologists, you'll play a vital role in their conservation. Your work includes the care of turtle eggs until they hatch and the release of hatchlings into the sea, a critical step in ensuring their survival.

Volunteers can expect:

  • 3 to 6 hours of work per day, 6 days per week
  • Plenty of free time to explore Costa Rica and enjoy its activities

 

Activities available nearby include:

  • Surf training and rentals are available at a nearby surfing school (100 meters)
  • Beach horseback riding is only a few minutes away from the site.
  • The stunning Manuel Antonio National Park is around 45 minutes away by bus.
  • The beautiful Dominical beach, which offers sports, snorkeling, fishing, and recreational fishing, is also only 30 minutes distant by bus.
  • The Marino Ballenas National Park is only 45 minutes away, and at certain periods of the year, you can see humpback whales with their young.
  • The beach is about 100 meters away, ideal for sunbathing and taking in the tropical scenery.
  • Across the street from the site are a football pitch and a volleyball net.
  • A spectacular waterfall is only a one-hour walk away.
