Volunteer Placements in Ghana's Education System
Our volunteer program offers placements in all levels of the Ghanaian education system, including:
- Primary School: The foundation of a child's education.
- Junior High School: Critical for language development.
- Secondary School: Reserved for qualified individuals, preparing students for university.
Why Primary and Junior High Schools?
Most volunteers opt to work in primary and junior high schools due to their proximity and flexibility in accommodating diverse needs. English, math, science, local language, and religious and moral education are commonly taught, often without access to computers or laptops. Creative arts and music, although adored by children, are primarily taught from textbooks due to resource shortages.
The Importance of English Learning
Many rural schools struggle with English learning. Children often begin learning English late, missing the critical early language development period. By junior high school, subjects like math and science are taught in English, making language acquisition essential. Students failing these tests may be forced into low-paying employment.
Our volunteers make a significant impact, helping children feel more comfortable with English, even in just three months, setting them on a path to success as they grow into young adults.
What's Included in Your Placement?

- House Utility Bills: All utilities, including kitchen, electricity, and running water, are included.

We charge a cost price to cover your stay and employ local support staff, supporting the community's economy.
Getting to Your Placement
Budget an additional 10-40 Ghana cedis per day for transport costs. We work with schools in the local community and slightly further out. Taxis are commonly used for transportation, and shared cabs in the city are affordable. Transport costs to schools typically range from 5 to 40 cedis a day, with an average of about 10 cedis. Remote village schools may cost a bit more to reach, but we can help you organize transportation and provide guidance.
The ease of transportation options ensures a flexible and convenient experience for our dedicated volunteers. Join us in Ghana to make a lasting impact on the lives of young learners.
