Fundacion Neotropica focuses on various critical areas, including Environmental Education, Management Plans for Wild Protected Areas, Ecological Economics, and Blue Carbon. These areas also serve as key volunteer opportunities, allowing you to contribute to projects that have a lasting positive effect on Costa Rica's environment.

Role and responsibility

Community Blue Carbon Program – PCAC

Planting of mangrove seedlings in degraded areas
Nursery maintenance
Monitoring of mangrove seedlings in identified places
Participation in dissemination activities

Reforestation in the ARBORETUM Jorge Luis Poveda Alvarez

Tree plantation
Monitoring of seedlings and identified places
Maintenance of trails within the Arboretum
Participation in dissemination activities

Maintain a Demonstration of Organic Orchard

Reconstruction of the greenhouse
General maintenance of the garden
Construction of a demonstrative garden of medicinal plants in the area
Treatment of organic waste and compost production
Nursery production
Support in the maintenance and general work of the green areas of the CEEC AWT
Design and Updating of the Teaching Material
Participation in dissemination activities

Environmental Education Program (PEA)

Cost Note

First week’s fee: $US 649
Every Additional Week: $US 299 (It does not matter many weeks you choose, this fee stays the same)

FEES EXPLAINED:

Our organizational fee of around 299$ is included in the first week’s fee and covers the “behind the scenes costs”, such as staff salaries, office space rental, transaction and bank fees, and more. Our weekly fee for additional weeks covers the costs of your host family or project accommodation and food, the local staff on your project, and a donation to help with the daily running costs of the program you will help on.

Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated. Green Life Volunteers will let you know about the final price during your application process.

Deposit (15%)

The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.

Final Payment (85%)

Your final payment will be agreed with Green Life Volunteers during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.

Our services are free of charge.

Our partner organisations only ever charge you for basic utilities and resources like food, transportation, accommodation, or crucial training sessions that may require hiring professionals. And we do not charge you anything at all!

Important Things to Note

All programs attract a Registration Deposit Fee of 15% of the program cost in addition to the main program fee. This fee is refundable in the event of your booking cancellation by our partner organisation.
A 5% international banking fee is added at point of payment.
Additional things to budget for include: Visa, flights, travel insurance (mandatory), vaccinations, criminal background check, public transport to and from your placement each day and for returning to the airport when your program finishes.
Recommended spending money: Volunteers in Costa Rica generally find US$100 - US$150 to be sufficient for basic weekly expenses.
