FIRST HAND SPANISH COURSE: Intensive Learning

Are you passionate about language learning and eager for a deep dive into Spanish? Our First Hand Spanish Course is designed for language enthusiasts who crave immersive learning experiences. We provide intensive classes for beginners, intermediate, and advanced learners, with options for private one-on-one sessions or small groups of 2-3 people. Expect 2 hours of focused learning each day, along with ample homework and self-study materials.

The beauty of this program is its flexibility. You can easily fit it into your school schedule, allowing you to learn Spanish alongside your academic commitments. However, please note that it's not possible to combine this course with other First Hand projects – plan this time separately. For volunteers seeking a well-rounded language experience, we recommend exploring the cooperating language school option (see below).

COOPERATING LANGUAGE SCHOOL: A Classic Language Experience

For those who prefer a more traditional language school setting, our cooperating language school offers an exceptional learning environment. Located in a picturesque beach campus or near the capital, these classes provide 4 hours of daily instruction, alternating between morning and afternoon sessions.

Beyond language lessons, you'll have the opportunity to participate in enriching activities like cooking classes, dance lessons, movie nights, yoga, and exciting excursions. It's a perfect choice for those volunteers who wish to focus on language acquisition and want to explore Costa Rica at their own pace.

Please keep in mind that the cooperating language school program cannot be combined with any of our First Hand projects. If you decide to enroll in this option, plan your schedule accordingly, as it requires dedicated time separate from other volunteer opportunities.

Deposit (15%)

The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.

Final Payment (85%)

Your final payment will be agreed with First Hand Costa Rica during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.

Important Things to Note

All programs attract a Registration Deposit Fee of 15% of the program cost in addition to the main program fee. This fee is refundable in the event of your booking cancellation by our partner organisation.
A 5% international banking fee is added at point of payment.
Additional things to budget for include: Visa, flights, travel insurance (mandatory), vaccinations, criminal background check, public transport to and from your placement each day and for returning to the airport when your program finishes.
Recommended spending money: Volunteers in Costa Rica generally find US$100 - US$150 to be sufficient for basic weekly expenses.
