As your tasks will vary based on various factors, you should be open to helping out in any kind of activity that is prioritised while you’re there.
Are you a high school student with a passion for finance, banking, or lending? Consider applying for the "Microfinance for Economic Empowerment" program in Ghana, offered by Our Generation Voluntary Organization (OGVO). This unique internship opportunity allows you to make a meaningful contribution towards combating urban and rural poverty in Ghana.
About the Program:
The primary goal of this program is to provide affordable baseline loans to Ghanaian citizens who struggle to secure financial assistance from traditional banks. Many of these loans are sought by women entrepreneurs looking to support their small businesses and personal needs. As a volunteer, you'll play a direct role in these microfinance initiatives, assisting in the processing of loan applications and ensuring the smooth operation of microfinance services for deserving Ghanaian citizens.
Why Choose This Program?
This program is a great way for high school students who are interested in microfinance and how money affects communities to spend a portion of their summer in Ghana. In addition to gaining real-world experience, you'll integrate into the community and fully experience the local way of life.
The Impact:
The OGVO microfinance project has already helped over 200 Ghanaian individuals improve their lives, providing disadvantaged communities with the means to achieve financial independence and stability. By offering microfinance cash loans and micro leasing options, this project aims to break the cycle of poverty by supporting those who need it most. Microfinance is a proven method to elevate living standards for the less fortunate. Join this project to witness its real-world impact and learn about the challenges facing borrowers and microfinance institutions.
Explore Ghana:
During your stay, you'll have the opportunity to explore Ghana's rich culture and history. The program includes a visit to the Kakum Rainforest Reserve in Cape Coast, where you can hike through the jungle and experience a thrilling canopy walkway. Additionally, you'll visit Cape Coast's historic slave fort and learn about the region's fascinating history.
Safety & Support:
Our first priorities are your safety and well-being. Our knowledgeable staff is equipped to oversee and assist high school volunteers. We have a comprehensive timetable in place to ensure a structured yet flexible experience. You'll work alongside other volunteers, visit historical sites, and participate in cultural activities during weekends and evenings.
Volunteers are never left alone and are accommodated in host families or dorms managed by our staff. This ensures a safe and supportive environment for all participants. Plus, you'll have the opportunity to explore your independence by joining other programs in the evenings and weekends.
