Volunteers who find joy in working with children and understand their attention needs. Those who possess the virtues of patience, humility, and the ability to communicate with kids, are excellent candidates for volunteering. As your tasks will vary based on various factors, you should be open to helping out in any kind of activity that is prioritised while you’re there.
The lack of adequate schooling facilities is a huge problem in Victoria Falls, especially at the primary school level (ages 6 - 13). With an ever-growing population and a high number of children making up this population, primary schools are often overcrowded, understaffed, and lack the necessary infrastructure and resources to provide a solid and well-rounded education service.
School classrooms often see a teacher-to-student ratio of 1:45 (1 teacher for every class of 45 students). As a direct result of this, schools focus almost 100% on the academic side of things. Having volunteers at these schools enables them to offer additional activities such as sports, art, and music. Students who are struggling in class can then also get the individual attention that they require.
