UN’s Sustainable Development Goals:

No Poverty Quality Education

This program is ideal for

Volunteers who care about young students building a solid fundamental education base for their entire life. Those who can teach lessons creatively and make sure that students understand these lessons completely. As your tasks will vary based on various factors, you should be open to helping out in any kind of activity that is prioritised while you’re there.

We offer placements among all classes of the Ghanaian education system, these are:

  • Primary School
  • Junior High School
  • Secondary School

Most volunteers choose to work at primary and junior high schools since they are close by and offer more flexibility to accommodate different needs. Secondary is usually reserved for qualified individuals as once students have completed this level they are university ready.

Join our volunteer program in Ghana and help support education at primary and junior high schools. Learn about the various classes you can assist with and the unique teaching challenges in Ghana. Consider joining our volunteer program in Ghana, where you can support schools at different levels of the Ghanaian education system, including Primary School, Junior High School, and Secondary School.

Choosing Your Placement:

Most volunteers choose to work at Primary and Junior High Schools due to their proximity and flexibility in accommodating different needs. Secondary schools are typically reserved for qualified individuals, as students at this level are preparing for university. In Ghanaian schools, basic courses such as English, math, science, local languages, and religious and moral education are commonly taught, often using textbooks due to a lack of access to computers and resources. Creative arts and music, which children adore, are also primarily taught from textbooks.

Why Choose This Placement?

In addition to dealing with expanding class sizes and a shortage of substitute teachers, schools in Ghana often require a fresh approach to teaching, as the current method is often dictation-focused. Practical learning is not introduced until secondary school, and there is a distinct lack of resources, especially for creative arts and music. Your role as a volunteer is to enhance and assist, not to replace teaching staff. Ghana places a high value on education when circumstances allow, and volunteers frequently teach various classes alongside teachers or headmasters. Additionally, you can provide one-on-one support to children who are struggling, as the teaching method in rural communities is mostly dictation-focused.

What's Included in This Placement?

  • Support Staff
  • Accommodation
  • House Utility Bills
  • Pre-Departure Support

We offer this project at a cost price to cover your stay and employ local support staff, supporting local employment. Your accommodation will be in a modern-style house in a semi-rural area, offering beautiful views and a connection to the local towns and rainforests. All house utilities, including kitchen access, electricity, and running water, are included. A member of our local support team will be living in-house or nearby, ensuring you have assistance and guidance whenever needed.

Getting to the Placement:

Budget an additional 10 - 40 Ghana cedis per day for transport costs. We work with several schools within the local community and slightly further out. Volunteers typically use taxis for transportation to and from their placement location. Shared cabs are a simple and affordable option in the city. Transport costs may range from 5 cedis to 40 cedis per day, with an average of about 10 cedis. More remote village schools may cost a bit more to reach, but we can help you organize transportation and provide guidance on cab services.

Make a difference in the lives of Ghanaian students by becoming a School Support & Teaching Volunteer today. Your dedication and support can help shape their educational journey.
