Athens: A Welcoming Haven for Refugees
The Greek city of Athens has greeted a wide range of people from different backgrounds with compassion. Athens has welcomed refugees in recent years who were fleeing violence and unrest in nearby areas. This compassionate approach has led to the creation of host centers, where refugee beneficiaries are temporarily housed as they await reunification with their families.

Sports & Arts Volunteering
Join our program and embark on a journey of volunteerism that combines the power of sports and arts to make a difference in the lives of young refugees. You will be welcomed into a local host center, where your mission is to engage with teenagers and youngsters in an informal and supportive manner.

Your Role as a Volunteer
Your main responsibility is to establish a secure and welcoming atmosphere for these young individuals. By engaging them in sports and arts activities, you will enable them to express themselves, foster connections among themselves, and form meaningful relationships with you. Your steadfast commitment and presence have the potential to profoundly influence their lives, offering them opportunities for personal growth and development.

Safety and Requirements
As this project involves daily interactions with vulnerable groups, volunteers are expected to adhere to safety restrictions and privacy measures. Moreover, it is essential that volunteers possess an educational background in sports science and/or arts to ensure their effective contribution to the program.

 

 

  1. Explore Ancient Athens: Athens is known for its rich history and ancient landmarks. Volunteers can visit iconic sites such as the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Ancient Agora, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus.
  2. Visit Museums: Athens has several museums that offer insight into the city's history and culture. Some of the popular ones include the National Archaeological Museum, the Acropolis Museum, the Benaki Museum, and the Museum of Cycladic Art.
  3. Relax on the Beach: Athens is home to some beautiful beaches. Volunteers can take a break from their work and enjoy the sun, sand, and sea. Some of the beaches near Athens are Vouliagmeni Beach, Glyfada Beach, and Agios Kosmas Beach.
  4. Experience Greek Cuisine: Greece is famous for its delicious food, and Athens has many restaurants and tavernas that offer traditional Greek dishes. Volunteers can try local specialties such as moussaka, souvlaki, tzatziki, and Greek salad.
  5. Wander in Plaka: Plaka is a historic neighborhood in Athens with narrow streets, neoclassical buildings, and quaint shops and cafes. It's a great place to stroll around and soak up the atmosphere.
  6. Hike Mount Lycabettus: Mount Lycabettus is a hill in the center of Athens that offers breathtaking views of the city. Volunteers can take a hike up the hill, or take the funicular railway, to reach the top.
  7. Watch a Movie at an Open-Air Cinema: Athens has several open-air cinemas that offer a unique cinematic experience. Volunteers can watch a movie under the stars while enjoying the warm Athens evenings.
  8. Enjoy Nightlife: Athens has a vibrant nightlife scene with bars, clubs, and music venues. Volunteers can enjoy a night out with friends and experience the city's lively atmosphere.
