This program is ideal for:

This program is suitable for volunteers who have passion for construction, renovation and painting of school classrooms, educational facilities and orphanages once constructed are mostly left to deteriorate over the years.  A lot of these buildings have damaged roofing sheets, cracked walls and floors which are often dangerous and pose a dangerous threat for the young school children that are based inside the buildings. We aim to work with local workmen to develop these facilities and improve the feel and aesthetics for all those dilapidated buildings.

Due to the enthusiasm and the willingness of the school children in rural communities in Ghana, once we get the basics of the walls repaired at a project site we are then hoping to improve the feel and appearance especially at our local schools by painting the classroom buildings and creating an amazing educational wall displays and boards.

About the program:

Construction volunteers join projects in the rural areas to work on public buildings and schools, typically in communities in need of assistance and funding. You are supported by a local, English speaking project coordinator who is experienced in guiding and training international volunteers and interns.

Volunteers may be asked to perform a range of activities such as:

  • Carpentry, welding, and plumbing works
  • Small repairs on walls and roofs
  • Laying tile or other flooring
  • Mixing cement, masonry
  • Renovation work, like painting and plastering works

Volunteers must be in good health and ready to work hard in construction projects. They do not need experience but a reasonable level of fitness and strong dedication to the work to go a long way in ensuring that you get the most out of this project.

We recommend you to bring working boots, gloves, safety glasses, clothes, hat and sun cream that you do not mind getting dirty.

Why this Placement?

Classrooms, toilet facilities, community centers, libraries and orphanage homes once constructed are mostly are left to deteriorate over the years without maintenance. A lot of these infrastructures have damaged roofing sheets, walls cracking and floors which are often dangerous and pose a dangerous threat for the young children which are based inside them. We aim to work to improve these structures with local workmen to develop these educational facilities and better quality appearance for the affected individuals and communities.

Due to the enthusiasm and the willingness of the school children in rural communities in Ghana, once we get the basics of the walls repaired at a project site we are then hoping to improve the feel and appearance especially at our local schools by painting the classroom buildings and creating an amazing educational wall displays and boards.
