Compassionate and dedicated volunteers who have a passion for education and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of children. You should remain motivated by the opportunity to be role models and friends to the children, while embracing cultural immersion and gaining valuable teaching experiences.

Are you ready to embark on a meaningful journey as a volunteer in Costa Rica, making a lasting impact through the Teaching Children Project? Join us in the picturesque Osa Peninsula, where your dedication can change the lives of underprivileged children.

Volunteering in Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula

As a volunteer, your mission is clear: to support educators in the remote and rural schools dotting the Osa Peninsula. This region, while brimming with natural beauty, faces social and economic challenges, with limited employment opportunities. Here, you will encounter schools with meager resources, typically serving 30 to 60 students, often managed by a sole teacher who juggles multiple grade levels.

Immersed in Rural Costa Rican Life

Your journey as a volunteer takes you into a small rural community, where authenticity and connection flourish. You'll be embraced by a host family who will provide you with a comfortable room, ensuring you're never far from your place of work. Shared bathroom and kitchen facilities foster a sense of community and cultural exchange.

The Importance of Your Contribution

Your involvement in the Teaching Children Project is essential, given the educational challenges this region faces. The schools here are grappling with large class sizes and an acute shortage of teachers. By dedicating your time and skills, you play a pivotal role in providing these children with the chance to access higher-level education and more promising job opportunities, thus combatting poverty in the area.

Becoming More Than a Teacher

Beyond being an educator, you'll quickly become a cherished role model and friend to the children. Your positive influence will extend beyond the classroom, impacting lives, fostering friendships, and offering you profound insights into Costa Rican customs and culture. Additionally, this opportunity will provide you with indispensable teaching skills that will enhance both your personal and professional development.

Make a difference where it matters most. Join us in Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula as a volunteer for the Teaching Children Project. Your help is not only needed but eagerly anticipated.

Ojochal is a very warm and welcoming village in the Puntarenas of Costa Rica. There is plenty to do around the Puntarenas, and the staff of the research center can help you organize activities around Ojochal during your project time. Unfortunately, any extra-curricular activities are not covered by the Green Life Volunteers project fee. Activities may be surfing, paddle boarding, hikes, bird watching, zip lining, visiting Marino Ballena National Park, visiting Manual Antonio National Park, and much more. You can also visit other cities nearby Ojochal. You may visit Dominical or Uvita, which are popular for their beaches. There will be several volunteers and interns at the research center at the same time, often they form groups to do some weekend activities together. Or you may decide that you would like to venture off on your own - either way, the staff members of the research center will be there to help you to get things set up! If you want to do any activities before or after your volunteer time/internship you can also contact Green Life Volunteers. Just ask Green Life Volunteers or the research center during or before your volunteer time/internship!
