Clean Water and Sanitation Climate Action

This program is ideal for

Compassionate individuals who are passionate about improving access to clean drinking water. Volunteers with a proactive and positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a genuine desire to make a difference will find great fulfillment in participating. An understanding of the importance of clean water and the ability to work well in diverse communities will also be valuable assets for this program.

Water filters are a good and relatively affordable option to provide clean drinking water in Peru. The access to clean drinking water is essential for the well-being of human beings. In a lot of places in Peru, the tap water contains very unhealthy bacteria. One of the solutions for a better quality of drinking water is the use of water filters.

In the last years, Peru Volunteer has installed around 25 water filters. We want to revive the installation of water filters, and turn it into a ongoing activity. To make this happen, we will surely need the help of volunteers.

The installation of a water filter will have to most long-lasting impact when it is accompanied with good explanation. The usage and cleaning of the filter must be demonstrated. A clear plan for who is responsible for cleaning the filter, and how that can best take place.

Scouting good locations, like public schools, sport projects or communities in need of clean drinking water, are an important part of the project. Also documenting the installation and the use of the water filters will be important. As this project will require the funds to buy the water filters, we will need promotional material to demonstrate the utility and the impact of the filters.

Requirements Water filter project

This is a starting project, which needs to be built up. General goal is to provide more clean drinking water in and around Cusco. Scouting locations where clean water is really lacking. Preparing and organizing the installation of a water filter. But also explaining how to use, and how to clean the filter.

Another angle on this project can be giving workshops about the importance of clean water in schools and communities. Fundraising to be able to buy more filters, and covering the installation costs are also important and necessary parts.

A proactive and positive attitude is needed for this project. The better your Spanish skills are, the better you can get the message of the importance of clean water across.

Benefits of water filters

The benefits of clean water are far-reaching and omnipresent:

It is healthy and essential for the human body

• It reduces the risk of illness and ups the general hygienic level

• Water filters eliminate bacteria from the Peruvian tap water

• Access to clean drinking water is a human right
